 Appeal Property Tax Valuation

WATERCRAFT RATES: (Requires you to complete an on-line form or go to the county assessor's office to make application for the rates below.)

LOCKER UNITS (Slip) ASSESSED VALUE: (Requires you to write and mail an appeal of the valuation assessed by the Charleston County Assessor's Office.)

  •  The S.C. Code of Laws Paragraph 12-60-2510 as amended, states in part "If an assessment notice is issued, the taxpayer may only file an appeal within 90 days of the date of the assessment notice. If no assessment notices is issued, the taxpayer may file an appeal of the property at any time" 
  • The property assessments are made every 5 years according to the Assessor's office.
  • The letter below is an outline of the minimum requirements for an appeal of the valuations assessed to your property, including but not limited to, Parcel ID and legal description, location, owner opinion of current market value, owner name and address, Agent's name, address information,  if applicable, and a clear statement as to why you think your property is over values.
  • The document below was prepared by your Regime Board to aid in the preparation of your personal appeal.  This draft can be altered in any way or form but must contain at least the minimum requirements to file the appeal.  The document is prepared in word .doc format to allow your editiing to meet your personal requirements without have to type or retype completely.
  • NOTE:  Please remember that appeals or requests for adjustments of rates or assessment values does not affect the tax billing received.  You are still required to pay the current tax bill by the DUE DATE unless a new bill for the assessment is received prior to that date. 
  • ADDITIONAL NOTE:  It will be important that you have a qualified real estate professional pull some comporable selling prices for you of like property here and at other area Regimes. Mr. JP Hall, slip owner I-1 has been down this road with an appeal and recommended that the appeal take place in 2010 with 2009 know comparables in hand.
